NEET Counselling Documents 2026
Documents Required for NEET Counselling 2026 (AIQ & State Quota)
Your NEET score opens the door, but your documents secure the seat. Do not let a single missing paper ruin years of hard work.
The days following the NEET result declaration are filled with immense anxiety. Once you have navigated the NEET counselling process and a college is finally allotted to you, a strict, uncompromising deadline is triggered. You must report to the allotted medical college physically with an exact set of original certificates. This page is designed to resolve that pre-counselling panic.
Whether you are competing for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ), navigating the complexities of the 85% State Quota, or aiming for premium Deemed Universities, the documents required for NEET counselling 2026 vary significantly. Missing an expiration date on an EWS certificate, presenting a state-format OBC certificate for centralized AIQ counselling, or forgetting a gap affidavit can lead to immediate seat cancellation.
This comprehensive, printable checklist breaks down exactly what you need, original vs. photocopy rules, and how to handle missing documents legally so your admission goes flawlessly.
Overview of NEET Counselling 2026 Document Verification
Document verification does not happen entirely online. While you upload scanned copies during the initial registration on the MCC or State DME portals, the real NEET document verification process occurs physically at the college level.
Documents Required for All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling 2026
If you are securing a seat via the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for 15% AIQ, Central Universities, or AIIMS, you must carry the following core documents in original. This is the universal NEET 2026 counselling documents list.
Mandatory Documents (All Candidates)
- NEET 2026 Admit Card (Issued by NTA)
- NEET 2026 Result/Scorecard (With All India Rank)
- Provisional Allotment Letter (Downloaded from the MCC website)
- Class 10th Certificate and Marksheet (Acts as official Date of Birth Proof)
- Class 12th Certificate and Marksheet
- Valid Government Photo ID Proof (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving License, or Passport)
- Passport Size Photographs (6 to 8 copies – Must be identical to the photo uploaded on the NEET application form)
Documents Required for State Quota Counselling 2026
State quota counselling controls 85% of government seats and 100% of private college seats. Because states heavily protect their seats for local residents, the state quota counselling documents are far more rigorous regarding background checks.
In addition to the AIQ list above, you MUST carry:
State Domicile Certificate
The most critical document. It proves your residency in the state. Issuing authorities vary (Tehsildar/SDM). Note: AIQ does NOT require this.
State Caste Certificate
If claiming state-level SC/ST/OBC benefits, the certificate must be issued by the respective state government, strictly in the state's prescribed local format.
Income Certificate
Required if you are applying for state-sponsored fee waivers, scholarship schemes, or EWS quotas. Must be issued for the current financial year.
State Merit / Rank Card
Many states (like Maharashtra, Karnataka) release their own separate State Merit List. You must download and print this state-specific rank card.

Category-Wise Certificates (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD)
The rules governing category certificates are the #1 reason for seat rejections. Pay absolute attention to the validity dates and formats. For cutoff insights related to these categories, visit our category-wise cutoff guide.
- SC/ST Certificate: Must be issued by a competent authority (Tehsildar, District Magistrate, etc.). For AIQ, it must strictly follow the format given in the MCC information bulletin. It generally does not have an expiration date.
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Certificate: This is highly sensitive.
- For AIQ: Your caste must be listed in the Central List of OBCs. A state OBC certificate is invalid for AIQ.
- Validity: It MUST be issued on or after April 1, 2025 (for the 2026 admission cycle) to prove your current non-creamy layer financial status.
- EWS (Economically Weaker Section) Certificate: Similar to OBC, the EWS certificate is valid for only one financial year. It must be issued on or after April 1, 2025, based on the family income of the previous financial year.
- PwD (Persons with Disability) Certificate: Local hospital certificates are rejected. The disability certificate must be generated online exclusively from one of the designated Disability Assessment Boards outlined by MCC.
Documents Required for Deemed Universities
If you have secured a seat through MCC for a deemed university (refer to our Deemed Universities Admission Guide), the financial and legal documentation is heavier:
- Demand Draft (DD) / RTGS Proof: Deemed universities rarely accept cash or personal cheques for the massive first-year tuition fees (often ₹18L - ₹28L). You must carry the exact DD as per the university's notification.
- Anti-Ragging Affidavits: Two separate affidavits (one signed by the student, one by the parent) on non-judicial stamp paper, duly notarized.
- Bond Agreement: While deemed universities usually don't have rural service bonds, they often require a legal undertaking that you will pay the remaining 3.5 years of fees if you drop out mid-course.
Documents Required for Private Medical Colleges
For those targeting state private colleges (see our Private Medical Colleges Fees 2026 breakdown), you will report via State DME counselling. Additional documents include:
- Bank Guarantee: Some states (like Uttar Pradesh or Rajasthan) demand a bank guarantee for private college admissions to ensure the student can afford the subsequent years' fees.
- NRI Documents (If applicable): If applying under the NRI/Management quota, you need the sponsor's passport copy, embassy certificate, relationship affidavit, and foreign bank account statements.
Original vs Photocopies – What to Carry?
Never walk into a reporting center with just your originals. The administrative staff will not make photocopies for you.
1 Set of Originals
To be submitted to the college custody.
3-4 Sets of Copies
Self-attested photocopies of all documents.
Digital Soft Copies
Carry a Pen Drive with color PDFs of all originals.
Important Format & Validity Rules (Rejection Reasons)
Administrative officers are ruthless during verification. Your seat will be cancelled if:
- Name Mismatch: "Rahul Kumar Sharma" on 10th marksheet but "Rahul K Sharma" on Aadhaar. Solution: Get a notarized affidavit stating both names belong to the same person.
- Expired Certificates: Handing over a 3-year-old EWS or OBC-NCL certificate.
- Laminated Originals: Some universities reject laminated marksheets because they cannot verify the paper's watermark or affix their official stamps. Do not laminate your new certificates.
- Signature Mismatch: If your signature on the anti-ragging affidavit drastically differs from your NEET admit card.
Medical Fitness & Bond Documents
Almost all government colleges (and many private ones) require you to sign a rural service bond. This is a legal document (often on ₹500 or ₹1000 stamp paper) promising you will serve in rural areas for X years, or pay a penalty.
Medical Fitness Certificate: You cannot use a generic clinic letterhead. Download the official medical fitness format from the MCC/State website, take it to a registered MBBS/MD doctor, get checked (eyesight, general health), and have them sign and stamp it with their registration number.
Gap Certificate: If you dropped a year (or more) for NEET prep, get an affidavit on ₹50/100 stamp paper stating: "From [Year] to [Year], I was preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam and was not enrolled in any other degree program."
What If a Document Is Missing?
Panic ensues when a student realizes their transfer certificate (TC) or migration certificate hasn't arrived from their school.
The Solution: Do not skip reporting. Go to the college. For non-critical documents (like TC, Migration, or Gap Certificate), colleges generally allow Provisional Admission. You will be asked to sign an official undertaking promising to submit the missing document within 7 to 10 days.
Note: This leniency is NEVER granted for core documents like NEET Scorecard, 10th/12th Marksheets, or Category/Domicile Certificates.
