NEET UG 2026 Private Medical College Counselling – Fees, Open States & Process
Your Path to MBBS Beyond Government Seats
Private medical colleges under NEET UG 2026 provide excellent opportunities for students who may not secure government seats but are determined to become doctors.
With over 40,000+ MBBS seats available in private institutions, this sector plays a massive role in Indian medical education. Unlike government colleges, admission to private colleges is a mix of merit (State Quota) and budget (Management Quota).
Crucial Rule: Private colleges participate in State Counselling (conducted by respective state authorities like KEA, UPDGME) and NOT through the central MCC (except for Deemed Universities).

Types of Seats in Private Colleges
Understanding the category of seat is crucial for budget planning.
State Govt Quota
For: Domicile Students only.
About 25-50% of seats are reserved for state students at subsidized fees (Govt regulated). E.g., Karnataka Govt Seat in Private College = ~₹1.4 Lakhs/year.
Management/Open
For: All India Students (In Open States).
Open to non-domicile students. Fees are higher (₹10L - ₹18L/year) but admission is based purely on NEET merit among applicants.
NRI / Institutional
For: NRIs or High Budget.
15% seats reserved. If NRI seats remain vacant, they are often converted to "Institutional Quota" with higher fees for Indian students.
Score vs. Budget: What to Expect?
Generally, Higher NEET Score = Lower Budget.
| NEET Score Range | Probable Budget (Total Pkg) | Target Colleges/States |
|---|---|---|
| 550+ Marks | ₹50L - ₹70L | Kerala, Karnataka (Open Quota), Chhattisgarh |
| 400 - 550 Marks | ₹60L - ₹85L | Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka (Some Colleges) |
| 250 - 400 Marks | ₹80L - ₹1.2 Cr | Deemed Universities, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Pondicherry |
| Qualifying - 250 | ₹1.2 Cr+ | NRI Quota, Top Deemed Univs (Management) |
